Testing an autonomous shuttle service in cold weather

#artificialintelligence

A self-driving service has begun in Finland to test autonomous vehicles in cold weather conditions including snow. Sensible 4's service has started in Tampere, Finland, with two Toyota Proaces using the company's autonomous technology to transport locals as a last-mile service to the tramline. The pilot is part of Tampere's goal of smart city development. "Self-driving cars are an incredible opportunity for us to build a smooth, sustainable and smart city," said Anna-Kaisa Ikonen, mayor of Tampere. "In the future, autonomous vehicles can complement public transport in many ways, for example in tram feeder traffic. The service trial will give us a lot more information about this, and hopefully, many passengers will get an exciting car ride experience."

Help name one of Ann Arbor's new autonomous shuttles

#artificialintelligence

ANN ARBOR – A free autonomous shuttle service is coming to Ann Arbor in October and providers are turning to the public to name one of the vehicles. The A2GO ride service is a collaboration between May Mobility, University of Michigan's Mcity and Ann Arbor SPARK and will operate around U-M's central campus, the State Street corridor and Kerrytown. May Mobility will operate a fleet of five autonomous shared vehicles, which include four hybrid-electric Lexus RH 450h cars and one Polaris GEM fully electric vehicle, which will have capacity for one wheelchair passenger. "We're looking for a creative, clever and memorable name," reads the contest page. "There's only one rule - the shuttle's name has to start with an'M'!" Name suggestions can be submitted now through Sept. 8. Voting on semifinalists will be open from Sept. 14-23 and the winning name will be announced on Oct. 11 -- the scheduled start date for the service.

Lyon gets a new autonomous shuttle service. Operated via Navya electric driverless vehicles in cooperation with Sytral and Keolis, the open-road experiment will be fully integrated within Lyon's public transport network. Another pilot involving a shuttle supplied by the French company is taking place in Merano (Italy) where for one week the vehicle will be running on a short route closed to car traffic. Recently, a demonstration on standard-lenght autonomous bus has been held in Gothenburg thanks to a cooperation between Volvo Buses and Keolis. The new autonomous bus pilot has been launched on Friday 22th November and see Navya as a provider of two autonomous shuttles.
